Kolmont contributes to the expansion of SME zone Op ’t Reeck in Riemst
The municipality of Riemst is taking another important step in the expansion of business park Op ’t Reeck. With an additional 5 hectares added to the commercial zone, the municipality wants to meet the growing demand of local companies for efficient business space. Kolmont is participating in the project and will build the infrastructure and bring 35 business units to the market.
35 climate-proof SME units
The project will be developed in two phases. We join forces with the municipality on the first half of the project, followed by independent execution by the municipality in the concluding phase.
In the first phase, Kolmont, which owns about half of the land, will build the infrastructure and bring 35 new business units to the market. The units will be built using sustainable materials and practices. The commercial zone will be surrounded by a green buffer and a rainwater buffer will be provided. Along the east side, Op ’t Reeck III will be connected to the existing businesses of Op ’t Reeck.

Local economy is given priority
About 57 companies are currently operating in Op ’t Reeck I and II. Initially, the units of Op ’t Reeck III will only be offered to companies that are based in the municipality of Riemst and to business owners who live in the municipality of Riemst.
Joël L’Hoëst, alderman for the local economy: “Companies are becoming increasingly professional, comply with stricter rules and continue to grow, as a result of which their current locations often become too small. This forces some business owners to relocate to specific locations. We have already received several requests from local entrepreneurs, so entrepreneurs from Riemst are given absolute priority.”
Jeroen Van Neck, developer at Kolmont: “Business park Op ’t Reeck is a top location for businesses, both strategically and in terms of location. As always, quality and sustainability are Kolmont’s main focus. We are committed to using high-quality, durable materials that still give plenty of options for crafting your ideal space. As such, flexibility and customization go hand in hand. Our team of experts provides comprehensive solutions for growing businesses, helping them plan for the future and taking care of everything from start to finish. Our goal is to provide our customers with a workplace where they can thrive and flourish.”
Mark Vos, mayor: “Because the previous expansion in 2013 was such a success and all available space was occupied in less than five years, an additional expansion is urgently needed. Entrepreneurs themselves are asking for it. It goes without saying that the municipal government wants to meet the needs of our entrepreneurs, especially if it can create additional jobs.”
