Business park CityDepot
Smart city logistics requires smart business premises. A build-to-suit building. On a strategic location: on the banks of the Albert Canal, just outside the city centre of Hasselt. At the request of logistics company CityDepot, Kolmont designed and built a modern office environment with well-equipped warehouses. CityDepot connects carriers, large and small retailers, e-commerce companies, cities, (semi-)public organisations and consumers. The goal? Smart, sustainable distribution of goods to the city centre and back. To keep unnecessary freight traffic out of the city centre.

Spatial vision
For its headquarters in Hasselt, CityDepot was looking for a long-term partner. The location of the distribution centre was strategically chosen: on the Scheepvaartkaai, on the banks of the Albert Canal. This also allows for deliveries by ship. There is direct access to the Grote Ring motorway, and a lot of trucks and delivery vans are kept out of the city centre. HVC Architects did the design. The offices have a contemporary look with black profiled plates, orange eye-catchers and a lot of glass. Adjacent is a spacious company hall of 2000 m2 with offices.
Enhancing liveability
CityDepot stores products that arrive by water or road, bundles them and distributes them in the city centre: just in time and with agile, low-emission vehicles. This keeps out heavy freight traffic, as well as courier services that would otherwise have to drive to the city centre for just one parcel. Innovative and sustainable. A lot of businesses in the inner city of Hasselt have started using this service. This way of working pays off. In 2012, CityDepot Hasselt won the Thuis in de Stad (‘At Home in the City’) award, an award from the Flemish government to stimulate innovative urban developments. According to the jury, CityDepot sets an example through its creative approach and ongoing efforts to turn concrete problems into a vision of urban cohabitation.
